I honestly don't know if this is working yet!  If you have any queries at all, please get in touch!

Each print is approximately 20x30 cm (the dimensions vary slightly because I have cropped them all myself to where I think they should be, as opposed to using standard measurements).  They are mounted in hand-cut antique white mounts, usually to fit a standard 30x40 cm frame, but if you wish them to fit a frame of other dimensions, please just ask.  Each print is signed by me and there is for each a limited edition of 99.

The prices include courier delivery within Europe; if you live elsewhere or wish to arrange for another mode of delivery, please contact me.

 Thank you for looking!

Plane tree sunset

I've had a print of this at home since I took it.  People have often asked questions along the lines of, oh, is that Africa or somewhere?  Amusing to see the reactions of native Germans when I say, nope, it's right in front of you, there on the banks of the Rhine.

I was cycling back, a bit knackered, from a rehearsal, on this particular evening.  The sunset made me stop and drop my bike (happens quite often) and I appreciated for the first time the beauty of these odd (to British eyes) pollarded plane trees, reaching out like inverted ink drippings into the sky...

Golden sunset

One of those moments where, cycling along quite happily, you become aware of a shimmering quality of light as the sun sets; my bike fell to the ground as I saw these dramatic black fingers of shadow stretching out from behind the gold-rimmed clouds, set off by the shadow-play of the trees in the foreground.

Staatstheater Mainz

My old stamping ground, this.  I sang here on a regular basis for years, and loved seeing the play of the light on this building, and in particular, as seen here, the contrast between the old brickwork and the crisp architectural newness of the upper storey.

The pinkness just happened one evening.  I liked the feeling of peace it evoked in conjunction with the clear blue of the sky.

Mäuseturm, Bingen am Rhein

This image took my breath away.  No, really! I was at the top of a steep incline, near the beginning of my first bash at one of the stages of the Rheinsteig (paths along the Rhine), and this was the first time I turned around to look down at where we'd come from . . .

There's something in the timelessness of the hills, caught by the mid-river tower, and the lazy curve of the river, which for me breathes peace.  I am damned grateful to live near such beauty.

Poppies

Oh yeah, was I glad that I took this photo at the beginning of the wine walk above Rüdesheim on the Rhine in Germany - because I have to admit that not much later, my focus really wasn't what it should have been (they are very generous in filling the glass in Hessen!).  At this point in the day, however, the weather hadn't decided what to do with itself, and the poppies as we passed them hadn't decided whether to give in to death in a dignified manner or hang on in their dignified frailty for another day, and the contrast of their indecision and the solidity of the rocks beneath was glorious.

Rose

Imagine a perfect day, the first in the whole of the summer which had actually produced warmth on the skin - well that's where this came from.  Cycling along the Rhine, uplifted by the first Erdbeerbowle I'd ever understood the point of (it's fizzy white wine with strawberries in.  If they're solid, nothing happens except that they float, and the whole experience is deflatory.  If, however, they are overripe and leaking juice, the experience hops to another level).  Eltville is famous for roses and for Riesling.  This was their first chance to unfurl.  And this one stretched its wings in the shadows of the castle walls, theatrical and exquisite.  Its perfume was divine.

Smoke horse

The serendipity of the unguarded moment!  This was taken in the garden of a friend's house in Mainz. The horse is the original of the statue which rears above the Landesmuseum.  There was a party, and sausages were being grilled.  Sometimes too much - burning sausages brought many German party guests to attention, whereas I dived for my camera; the emergence of the horse from the smoke felt too elemental to allow the smell of a little burnt sausage to divert such an image!

Graffiti nativity

An odd one, this.  Scrabbling up a flight of stairs with my bike, miserably aware of the unrelenting rain and the sudden sharp stench of urine, I looked up into the graffiti-covered tunnel and saw . . . a Nativity.  Sudden and shocking in its jewel-coloured unexpectedness, it somehow made me feel joyful.

Dandelion clocks

I dare say we've all gone past dandelion clocks as adults and watched the play of light through the unbelievably beautiful ghostlike mathematical structures and wondered what they would look like from underneath . . .  well, me too, and this is what happens, and thank goodness no-one caught me lying on the pavement in Bischofsheim and laughing to myself!

Bridge in mist

My favourite bridge, my commute, my earthly solidity, and yet this too can disappear into nothingness at the whim of the weather.  Something in this image catches at my throat, yet I'm pretty sure it ought to breathe peace.

Bridge sunset

Blue and gold, this was; an imperial, invincible sunset.  Laughing tatters fell into the Rhine, blocked only by the solidity of the bridge.  Breathless.

Wall

Yes, of course the pink looks vulgar and out of place - that's what happens when someone graffitis over an old tower  by the Rhine, and the stonework tried but fails to fight back.  However the moss - ah, the moss is happy to answer in its own colour and texture . . .

Fire

Pyromaniac here.  Happy to admit it.  In the genes, I think (although I have as yet come nowhere near my father's bag of chimneys, sheds and trees).  Am never happier than when scorching one side of my face or the other by a fire; what matter where this friend's contribution was, surely the pleasure is universal?
